Frog out the Well (2019)

“Frog in a well” is Korean proverb, which describes  ‘A person with narrow perspective and insight.’ Because I consider myself like a “Frog in a well,”  I expressed my persona in the shape of frogs setting them free to explore the world as brooches. While wearer is moving, brass piece inside makes jingling sound like a sound from a frog.

Applied Origami for sheet of metals (Metal Origami)

My approach to metalsmithing was also inspired by family history. As long as my mother is Origami teacher in South Korea, I learned non-verbal communications with my mother and the world, since I was kid. Based on this childhood experience, I am exploring ways to translate paper craft techniques into metal. Through my artistic practice, I strive to build upon and further develop this primal and basic visual language inherited from my ancestors and discovered with my mother.
