Singing Bowl and following Performance, Installation

The Singing Bowl is an installation piece inspired by the spiritual use of the bowl in Buddhist meditation. The skeleton inside the bowl represents the pure part of my mind. The tin face and its agonized expression was inspired by the demonic figures in Buddhist paintings, and represents the internal agony of my mind.

명상용 주발과 그에 관련된 퍼포먼스, 설치 작업

이 작업은 불교적 명상을 위해 쓰이는 주발(그릇)에 영감을 받아 제작한 실물과 퍼포먼스 작업이다. 지옥도에서 모티브를 얻은 악마적 형상(번뇌)를 녹여 열반에 도달하는 자아를 표현하고자 했다. 황동 주발 위에 주석으로 만든 형상을 얹은 뒤 그 밑에서 불을 가하였고, 두 금속의 융점 차이를 이용해 작업의 일부가 녹아내리는 장면을 연출했다. 영상의 배경음은 실제 작업(명상용 주발)을 두드리는 소리와 본 작업을 제작하던 도중 발생한 소음을 조합하여 만든 불교적 음악이다.
